Child Protection & Safeguarding Policy
Last updated: 26 October 2026
Some of our workshops, academies, conventions and projects involve children and young people under 18. We are committed to protecting their safety, wellbeing and dignity in everything we do. This policy applies to our staff, mentors, facilitators, volunteers and partners taking part in our activities.
1. Our commitment
- The welfare of the child is our first priority.
- Every child has the right to take part in a safe, respectful and inclusive environment, free from harm, abuse, discrimination and exploitation.
- We act in line with the Convention on the Rights of the Child and applicable Croatian and EU law.
2. Scope
This policy covers all activities where children are present, whether in person or online, and everyone acting on our behalf.
3. Consent and participation
- Children take part with the informed consent of a parent or legal guardian.
- Parents/guardians are informed about the nature of the activity and how any personal data is handled (see our Privacy Policy).
- Photography, video or publishing of any material featuring a child is done only with explicit parental/guardian consent, which can be withdrawn.
4. Code of conduct
Everyone working with children must:
- Treat all children with respect and listen to them.
- Avoid being alone with a child where possible, and keep interactions open and observable.
- Never use language or behaviour that is inappropriate, threatening, discriminatory or sexual in nature.
- Not share private contact details with a child or contact them privately outside the activity without a parent/guardian’s knowledge.
- Respect each child’s privacy and boundaries.
5. Online safety
For online activities, sessions are organised so that interactions are observable, communication goes through approved channels, and parents/guardians are informed of how their child participates.
6. Reporting concerns
Anyone who has a concern about a child’s safety, or witnesses behaviour that breaches this policy, should report it as soon as possible to our designated contact:
- Email: info@brodoto.com
- Phone: +385 98 139 2206
Concerns are taken seriously, handled sensitively and confidentially, and escalated to the relevant authorities (for example the police or social services) where a child may be at risk.
7. Responsibility and review
We are responsible for making this policy known to everyone involved in our activities and for reviewing it regularly. This policy is reviewed at least once a year and updated as needed.
